Google Pagerank Update - Guess who got a PR 3?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Hey there fellows! I haven’t been blogging the last few days much. My time was taken up by school and other secret projects ;). Recently, Google updated its Pagerank. So, whoever worked smart or hard for their site in the last quarter got a juicy Pagerank. And guess what Pagerank I have got? A PR 3! I was actually surprised. So, I did work hard for my blog.

This is my PR!

What about other blogs?

Almost all of my blog buddies got a PR update. Tom from StandoutBlogger got a PR 2, same for Melvin. Rajaie from RajaieTalks got a PR 3. Jason from The University Kid got a PR 4.

Looking at the top A-listing blogs in the blogosphere, I can say that some of rankings were not fair. John Chow got a PR 3! Hehe. John and me are same. Jim from The Net Fool has done a fair value analysis of the Pageranks given to different blogs.

How you can increase your PR

Google will most likely update its Pagerank after 3 months or so. So, till then, here are some tips for you to improve your blog’s PR:

  1. Kill outgoing links - You need to do this first to ensure that your PR doesn’t get affected by this. Although linking to other sites is not bad, there are a few spammers that try to take advantage of this. If you link to shady sites, then there is a sure chance that your PR will take a hit. So enable nofollow on all your comments.
  2. Comment on other Blogs - I have been emphasizing on this point since the beginning of this blog. Comments are the biggest source of traffic for my blog. If you are smart enough, comment on blogs that are dofollow and have CommentLuv enabled. But be careful, don’t just go and spam those blog.
  3. Use a smart way to get PR - This chart shows how many links you need to boost your Pagerank. Use it smartly. Instead of gettingĀ 3055 linkbacks from PR 1 sites, you need just 18 links from a PR 4 site to get a Pagerank 4. Isn’t that smart?
  4. Write quality posts - This is the most important tip. Write quality posts. Only this will ensure the survival of your blog.

Follow these tips and you’ll surely get a PR update in the next 3 months :). Tell me what you think.

  1. Thanks for the link back! I’m really sorry I didn’t have the chance to mention your blog… let me bump it to the top of my RSS so that I get you included next time around. 55 websites is a lot for a list though, and I couldn’t go all day. I feel like you deserved at least a PR1, but good luck next quarter… keep up the good work!

  2. sweet update ;)

  3. Congrats on gaining a PR of 3.I have also moved from PR2 to PR3.

On the four tips that you have offered, I am having a problem in understanding #1 and #2. These tow seem to be contradicting each other. Why making comments on your own blog nofollow and then looking for dofollow and commentluv blogs in order to boost your PR. A blogger who makes his comment section nofollow should NEVER be going out there searching for and making comments on dofollow and commentluv blogs. This is unfair!

#3 and #4 are perfect. Thanks for leading me to the Google PR chat.It will help me greatly

  4. @Clement - Those two are contrary to each other. I accept that it is unfair. While tips #1 is for protecting your PR and stopping spammers. I guess that is the main reason why blog comments have nofollow enabled. If there were no spam comments, I would make all of my blog comments as dofollow.

So the main reason for having enabled nofollow is to protect your blog from spammers. We should follow tip #2 because we’re all sure were are not spammers, right? :D

  5. I still maintain my view.If you want to make comments on someone’s dofollow and commentluv blog simply because you want to increase the number of backlinks then you should also make the comment section of your blog dofollow so that others should also be able to increase the number of backlinks to their blogs. It is as simple as that. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. What if everyone made their comment section nofollow?

You can fight spammy comments by moderating your comments and using Akismet plugin.Write a comment policy which clearly states that spammy and off-topic comments will be deleted without notice. These are the techniques that I use on my Dofollow blog and I do not have problems with spam.
